Authorities in southern Ohio have arrested four adults after rescuing 16 children from what officials described as "deplorable" living conditions inside a residence in Hamden, Vinton County.

The operation followed the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday by local and state law enforcement agencies.

Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson called the scene "pure evil," saying investigators encountered children ranging in age from approximately 18 months to 18 years living in severely unsafe conditions.

Several of the children required immediate medical attention, with two transported by helicopter to Level I trauma centers. All 16 children are undergoing medical evaluations and are receiving appropriate care.

The suspects—Gary Siders Sr., Gary Siders Jr., Elizabeth Siders and Christina Siders—have been charged with a total of 17 criminal offenses.

They are scheduled to appear for arraignment in Vinton County Court of Common Pleas.

💡
Governor Mike DeWine praised the response of the Vinton County Sheriff's Office and supporting agencies. Officials said the investigation remains active and additional details may be released as evidence is reviewed.

Authorities also confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
