The House Freedom Caucus is pushing back against the Senate’s version of President Donald Trump’s flagship “One Big Beautiful Bill,” warning it violates the fiscal terms agreed upon by House Republicans.
In a post on X, the conservative group criticized the Senate’s plan for adding $651 billion to the federal deficit, before factoring in interest costs, which they said could nearly double the total.
The House budget framework was clear: no new deficit spending in the One Big Beautiful Bill.

The Senate’s version adds $651 billion to the deficit — and that’s before interest costs, which nearly double the total.
That’s not fiscal responsibility.
It’s not what we agreed to.…
“The House budget framework was clear: no new deficit spending,” the statement read. “That’s not fiscal responsibility. It’s not what we agreed to.”
The statement underscores growing conservative unease with the direction of Trump’s sweeping tax and spending legislation, which the president has demanded be on his desk by July 4. The Freedom Caucus is calling for the Senate to “make major changes” and align with the original House framework.
“Republicans must do better,” the group added.
