The U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington will continue enforcing its naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz and remains ready to escalate military action if needed, according to CBS News.
Speaking alongside senior military officials, Hegseth stressed that President Donald Trump’s priority is ensuring Iran never develops a nuclear weapon. He said the U.S. prefers a diplomatic solution but is prepared for stronger action if talks fail.

The briefing comes as House Democrats introduced impeachment articles against Hegseth, accusing him of overreach in the conflict. The move is unlikely to pass in the Republican-controlled House.
Meanwhile, Trump said Israel and Lebanon are set to hold rare talks, marking a potential diplomatic opening. According to reports, U.S.-Iran negotiations may also resume soon despite recent setbacks.
Tensions remain high, with Iran threatening retaliation and maritime traffic still disrupted. Officials say uncertainty persists as the fragile ceasefire nears its expiry.
