Hegseth: Qatar To Build Air Force Facility At Idaho Base

U.S. President Donald Trump with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani

The Qatari Emiri Air Force will build a facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, allowing Qatari pilots to train alongside U.S. forces, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Friday at the Pentagon.

The agreement reflects deepening military cooperation between the United States and Qatar.

Hegseth said the facility will host Qatari F-15 jets and pilots to enhance joint training, improve interoperability, and strengthen U.S.-Qatar ties.

The Singaporean Air Force also maintains a training presence at Mountain Home, though the base is not officially a foreign military installation.

The move highlights the Trump administration’s close relationship with Qatar, including an executive order signed last month guaranteeing U.S. protection of Qatar’s sovereignty.

Qatar also played a key role in brokering the Israel-Hamas peace deal. Controversially, Trump accepted a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet from Qatar to serve as Air Force One, raising questions about ethics and national security.
