House GOP Divided As Trump’s Spending Bill Faces Crucial Test

President Donald Trump and House Republican leaders are racing to rally support ahead of a pivotal vote on Trump’s tax and spending bill. With no public events on his schedule, Trump is holding meetings with GOP holdouts at the White House as the House prepares to vote.

House Speaker Mike Johnson met with the Freedom Caucus earlier today, but caucus chair Andy Harris said “nothing’s changed,” signaling persistent opposition from fiscal conservatives.

The hardline bloc insists the Senate’s version of the bill violates prior agreements by increasing the deficit and weakening key provisions, including those targeting green energy and Medicaid access for undocumented immigrants.

Moderate Republicans, including members of the Main Street Caucus, also expressed concerns — this time over deep Medicaid cuts. Trump is scheduled to meet with them today.

Without key amendments, several Republicans warn they won’t support the rule or the final bill, raising doubts about its path forward.
