OpenAI is in talks with the European Commission over access to its new cybersecurity-focused AI model, according to EU officials. The discussions come as regulators increase scrutiny of advanced AI systems that could potentially be misused for cyberattacks.
OpenAI recently announced a limited preview rollout of GPT-5.5-Cyber, a specialised version of its latest AI model designed for vetted cybersecurity teams. The report said the company is now engaging with EU authorities to allow closer monitoring of the model’s deployment and security safeguards.

Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier told reporters that Brussels welcomed OpenAI’s willingness to provide transparency and discuss access arrangements. According to the European Commission, more meetings with OpenAI are scheduled this week.
Meanwhile, Anthropic has yet to provide the EU with preview access to its Mythos model, which sparked concerns last month over possible cyber risks targeting critical software systems.
The Commission said discussions with Anthropic are continuing but remain at an earlier stage.
