Nvidia and Corning announced a major partnership to expand U.S. optical fiber manufacturing for artificial intelligence infrastructure, a move analysts say could significantly reshape the AI industry.

The companies said they will open three advanced manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and Texas focused on optical technologies for Nvidia’s AI systems. According to the joint announcement, the project is expected to create at least 3,000 jobs and increase Corning’s domestic optical manufacturing capacity tenfold.

The report said Nvidia has secured rights to invest up to $2.7 billion in Corning through stock warrants. Investors reacted strongly, with Corning shares jumping 17%.

Industry experts believe Nvidia is accelerating a shift away from traditional copper wiring toward fiber-optic technology inside AI data centers. The approach, known as co-packaged optics, could dramatically improve data transfer speeds while lowering energy consumption.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called AI infrastructure expansion a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to strengthen American manufacturing and supply chains.
