Iranian Cleric Issues Fatwa Against Trump, Netanyahu After Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump alonside Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in The White House

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi issued a fatwa Sunday urging Muslims to seek retribution against U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, labeling them "enemies of God" for threatening Iran's leadership.

The decree followed Trump’s recent Truth Social post stating he halted sanctions relief after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded with “anger, hatred, and disgust.” Trump also vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei during the recent 12-day war.

Under Iran's penal code, those deemed muharib — those who wage war against God — may face execution or other severe punishment. Shirazi declared Muslims who act against Trump or Netanyahu would be considered mujahid fi sabilillah (warriors in the path of God), according to Afghan Voice Agency.

The fatwa follows a fragile U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Iran after American airstrikes destroyed three Iranian nuclear sites. Despite the truce, tensions remain high across the region.
