Kia is recalling 462,869 Telluride sport utility vehicles from the 2020 through 2024 model years because of a defect that could increase the risk of fire.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a problem involving the front power seat slide cover may cause the seat motor to run continuously, overheat, and potentially ignite whether the vehicle is being driven or parked.
The report said the issue can occur if the seat adjustment knob becomes stuck or if an earlier repair performed under a previous service campaign was not completed correctly.
NHTSA said it has received reports of seven seat fires and 11 incidents involving melted seat motors.
Owners can check their vehicle identification number on the NHTSA website after July 17 or contact Kia for additional recall information.
