President Donald Trump's newly appointed acting Director of National Intelligence, Bill Pulte, reportedly arrived at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) a day before officially assuming the role and immediately began reviewing staffing levels, according to CNN.
According to CNN, Pulte met with lawyers and agency personnel while also seeking information about security clearances, classified briefings and travel arrangements.
Critics have raised concerns over his lack of intelligence experience, while supporters argue he is positioned to advance Trump's agenda within the intelligence community.
The report noted that Pulte will continue leading the Federal Housing Finance Agency while serving as acting DNI. His appointment comes amid ongoing debate in Washington over intelligence oversight, election-related investigations and the delayed confirmation process for Trump's permanent nominee, Jay Clayton.
Several Republican lawmakers have expressed frustration over uncertainty surrounding the transition, while Democrats continue to question Pulte's suitability for the position, CNN reported.
