OpenAI has signed a multibillion-dollar deal with chipmaker AMD, securing access to hundreds of thousands of advanced AI chips and an option to acquire up to a 10% stake in AMD.
The agreement marks a major boost for AMD, whose shares surged more than 30%, adding about $80 billion in market value.

The partnership will see AMD supply GPUs equivalent to six gigawatts of computing power beginning in late 2026, enough to power 5 million U.S. homes.
AMD expects to gain tens of billions in annual revenue, and more than $100 billion in new sales over four years.

The deal underscores OpenAI’s aggressive push to expand its infrastructure amid intense competition with Nvidia, which recently announced a $100 billion investment in OpenAI.

CEO Sam Altman said the deal will help meet soaring computing demands as the company pursues more powerful AI systems.
