Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced his campaign for a third term on Tuesday, citing the need to protect progress in the state from former President Donald Trump’s influence.
In a video posted on X, Pritzker declared, “Donald Trump’s made clear he’ll stop at nothing to get his way. I’m not about to stand by and let him tear down all we’re building in Illinois.”
I’m running for re-election to protect our progress and continue solving the problems we face. Let’s keep Illinois moving forward. https://t.co/nSZk3xqsWG pic.twitter.com/JD4LAm0gKv

A Democrat who has led the state since 2018, Pritzker said he’s running to “continue solving the problems we face,” and called serving as governor “the honor of my life.”
The billionaire heir and progressive leader is widely considered a potential 2028 presidential contender, known for his vocal criticism of Trump and defense of abortion rights, labor unions, and gun safety laws.
Pritzker enters the race with strong support in the deep-blue state, but his national ambitions could further intensify political attention.
