Prosecutors Cite Bullet Engraving As Evidence Of Political Motive in Kirk Case

Prosecutors in the Tyler Robinson case say an engraved bullet found in the suspected murder weapon provides evidence that Charlie Kirk was targeted because of his political views.

The alleged political motive is central to the case as prosecutors pursue the death penalty, while defense attorneys dispute whether the evidence establishes political targeting.

According to the report, DNA testing linked Robinson to the weapon and an engraving tool. Prosecutors also cited messages allegedly written by Robinson, including one stating, “I had enough of his hatred,” along with a note reportedly left for his roommate saying he had the opportunity to kill Kirk.

Defense attorneys argue the evidence does not sufficiently establish a political motive. The claims follow a five-day preliminary hearing held in July.

Judge Tony Graf is scheduled to decide on September 1, 2026, whether the case should proceed to trial.
