A US fighter pilot rescued after his F-15 was shot down over Iran in April told intelligence officials he witnessed an unusual formation of Iranian drones moving together in a pattern resembling a jellyfish, CNN reported.

According to the report, the pilot described multiple interconnected drones operating as a coordinated unit, with smaller drones positioned beneath larger ones.

The account triggered intense debate within the US intelligence community over whether Iran has developed an advanced drone networking capability previously unknown to American analysts.

The report said investigators are still examining the cause of the aircraft’s downing. Some early assessments explored whether the drone formation may have played a role.

US officials reportedly questioned the pilot’s observations, noting he suffered a concussion during the incident. However, intelligence sources said the capability described, known as "one-to-many meshed networking," is associated with advanced drone coordination.

Experts told CNN that if confirmed, such technology could significantly enhance Iran’s drone warfare capabilities and pose new challenges for US and allied forces in the region.
