Three Arrested After Chicago News Crew Attacked Near Adler Planetarium

According to authorities, several suspects exited a white truck and confronted a reporter and photographer, allegedly directing racial slurs at one of the journalists.

Three people have been arrested after a CBS Chicago news crew was assaulted while reporting near the Adler Planetarium on Monday afternoon, prompting a police investigation into the violent attack.

According to authorities, several suspects exited a white truck and confronted a reporter and photographer, allegedly directing racial slurs at one of the journalists.

During the altercation, one suspect reportedly ordered a dog to attack the 54-year-old victim, but the animal did not comply. The suspect then allegedly damaged the crew's equipment before fleeing the scene.

A CBS Chicago spokesperson condemned the incident, saying the network was "shocked and horrified" by the attack and relieved that both journalists escaped without serious injuries. Images from the scene showed damaged broadcasting equipment following the confrontation.

Chicago police later located the suspects in the Brighton Park neighborhood, where officers pursued the vehicle before making three arrests near West 36th Street and South California Avenue. Investigators also recovered a high-powered rifle during the operation.

Area Three detectives continue to investigate the incident, including the motive behind the attack, which occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday.
