Trump Says Iran Economy Is 'Collapsing' Under U.S. Pressure

U.S. President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump said Iran’s economy is “collapsing financially” under American pressure, claiming Tehran is losing hundreds of millions of dollars daily and urgently wants the Strait of Hormuz reopened.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump alleged that Iranian military and police forces are facing payment delays, signalling deep economic strain.

According to the report, Iran has restricted traffic through the strategic waterway, while the United States has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports since April 13. The blockade followed a ceasefire that paused direct conflict between the two sides.

Iran, however, has pushed back on Trump’s claims. According to statements carried by Islamic Republic News Agency, Agriculture Minister Gholamreza Nouri said the blockade has had limited impact on food supplies.

He stated that roughly 85 percent of essential goods are produced domestically, with alternative import routes helping maintain stability.

Tehran has criticised the blockade as a violation of the ceasefire agreement.
