Investors are hoping the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates to stabilize the economy and stock market. However, Fed Chair Jerome Powell remains cautious, prioritizing inflation control. In remarks delivered Friday, Powell emphasized the importance of keeping long-term inflation expectations stable, warning that tariff-induced price hikes could worsen inflation. Despite rising economic uncertainty, Powell noted that the job market remains strong, with unemployment at a low 4.2% and employers adding 228,000 jobs in March.

In response, Trump took to X (formerly Twitter) to urge Powell to act, calling it a "perfect time" for the Fed chair to cut rates and improve his image. Trump highlighted recent drops in energy prices, inflation, and consumer goods, alongside rising job numbers, as reasons for a rate cut. He also accused Powell of “playing politics” and urged immediate action to benefit the economy.
