Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States is willing to hold artificial intelligence talks with China because America remains “in the lead” on AI development.

Speaking to CNBC during President Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, Bessent said both countries plan to establish protocols on AI safety and best practices.

The talks come as Washington continues restricting advanced chip exports to China, particularly semiconductors produced by Nvidia. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang joined Trump’s delegation in Beijing.

Bessent also confirmed that Taiwan remained a major topic during the summit, adding that Trump would address the issue further in the coming days.
