The Trump administration is urging European governments to strengthen travel restrictions and health screening measures in response to the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa, citing concerns about the potential spread of the virus during major international events, including the World Cup.
On June 1, the United States issued a formal diplomatic appeal calling on European nations to adopt stricter precautions for travelers arriving from countries affected by the outbreak.
The United States has already implemented its own measures, including barring entry to foreign travelers who have recently visited affected countries within the previous 21 days.
Beyond travel controls, Washington has committed more than $200 million in assistance, along with medical supplies and other resources, to support efforts to contain the outbreak at its source.
The administration is also encouraging allies to increase financial contributions and public health support for affected countries.
Officials maintain that early intervention, international cooperation, and robust border health measures remain critical to preventing a wider global health emergency.
