The Trump administration is demanding that Iran publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz remains open to international shipping and commit to ending attacks on commercial vessels.
According to the report, senior U.S. officials want Tehran to provide assurances that ships transiting the strategic waterway will no longer face threats.
Iran subsequently expanded its military response, launching attacks across several countries in the Middle East, including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and Qatar.
According to the report, Iran continues to assert that it should exercise sole control over the Strait of Hormuz and has called for vessels using the route to pay fees to Tehran.
The report noted that much of the international community regards the waterway as an international shipping corridor open to global maritime traffic.
