President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States and Iran are "getting along very well," signaling optimism about diplomatic engagement despite recent military confrontation between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump noted that U.S. forces had "hit them very hard" during three nights of military operations but said relations have since improved.
The comments come as negotiations continue over security and maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has sought greater authority over shipping and proposed fees for vessels using the strategic waterway.
The discussions follow a temporary agreement reached last month that allowed commercial traffic to resume for a 60-day period. Officials from the United States and Qatar also met in Doha to discuss regional security, with technical talks focusing on maintaining safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and working toward a lasting ceasefire in West Asia. Trump also expressed confidence that efforts toward Iran's denuclearization were progressing positively.
He added that oil prices have declined since recent military operations and pointed to strong stock market performance as evidence of continued economic resilience.
