The United States and Iran have agreed to temporarily halt military strikes and continue negotiations under their interim peace agreement after fresh exchanges threatened to derail the fragile truce, according to AFP, citing a U.S. official.

The official said technical discussions on the memorandum of understanding will continue and commercial vessels will be allowed to move freely through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran had not immediately responded to the U.S. statement, and Washington did not confirm reports that talks would resume in Qatar on Tuesday.

The report said tensions escalated after U.S. forces struck 10 Iranian military targets over alleged threats to commercial shipping. Iran responded with missile strikes targeting U.S. bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, drawing condemnation from both Gulf nations.

Meanwhile, Israel said it destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah accused Israel of violating the ceasefire and warned it reserved the right to respond, highlighting the continued fragility of the broader regional peace process, reported by AFP.
