U.S. schools are increasingly moving away from banning artificial intelligence tools and instead teaching students how to use them safely and critically.
Charleston County School District is among those introducing AI literacy training for both students and teachers as the new school year begins.
Educators are focusing on generative AI's tendency to produce inaccurate or fabricated information, commonly known as hallucinations.
Classroom demonstrations are being used to teach students how to identify errors, recognise potential bias and independently verify AI-generated claims.
Thirty-seven states have issued official guidance on AI in schools, but approaches continue to vary significantly. Districts without statewide or centralised policies are developing their own rules, creating a patchwork of strategies for incorporating artificial intelligence into classrooms.
