A magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico's southern state of Chiapas, prompting a tsunami warning for nearby coastal areas.
According to the report, the quake occurred near Puerto Madero at a shallow depth of about six miles, causing strong tremors that were felt across southern Mexico as well as parts of neighboring Guatemala and El Salvador.
Authorities closely monitored the situation as emergency agencies assessed potential impacts along the Pacific coast.
According to the report, Mexican officials reported no immediate major damage or casualties following the earthquake.
However, the U.S. Geological Survey cautioned that the region's vulnerable building types and local ground conditions could increase the risk of structural damage and liquefaction in affected areas.
