The report said the February shooting in Canada left eight people dead and dozens injured. Lawsuits claim the attacker had prolonged conversations with ChatGPT about gun violence and that the platform failed to alert authorities despite internal warnings.

According to court filings, plaintiffs argue OpenAI prioritized business interests over safety and allowed the user to return after account suspension. They are seeking damages and stricter safeguards, including mandatory reporting of credible threats.
OpenAI rejected the allegations, stating it has a zero-tolerance policy for violence and has strengthened safety systems. The case adds to growing scrutiny of AI platforms and their role in real-world harm.
