A deadly shooting at Toronto's Salsa on St. Clair festival has prompted renewed calls for stronger security at major public events.

According to the report, gunfire erupted Saturday night as about 13,000 people attended the festival, leaving two people dead and several others injured. Witnesses described scenes of panic as crowds fled the area.

The report said local business owners and residents are urging city officials and event organizers to strengthen security at future festivals.

Some have suggested introducing metal detectors, ending events earlier, or relocating festivals to venues where access can be more effectively controlled. One business owner said the violence has raised doubts about participating in future events.

According to the report, emergency preparedness experts cautioned that no open-air festival can be made completely secure.

While they support reviewing security arrangements, they argue that long-term efforts should also address the underlying causes of gun violence rather than relying solely on increased policing and event security.
