General Motors is cutting hundreds of salaried positions in its information technology division as the automaker moves to reduce costs and reassess workforce needs, according to reports.
The layoffs reportedly began Monday and are expected to affect around 500 to 600 employees globally, with many of the impacted workers based in Austin, Texas, and Warren, Michigan. The report said the reductions are part of a broader restructuring effort inside GM’s IT operations.

GM confirmed the job cuts in a statement but did not provide detailed figures. The company said it is transforming its IT organization to better prepare for future business demands and thanked affected employees for their contributions.
According to company data, GM employed roughly 68,000 salaried workers worldwide at the end of last year, including 47,000 white-collar employees in the United States.
The layoffs follow previous workforce reductions, including the elimination of more than 200 engineering roles last October amid changing business conditions.
