Iran Shuts Hormuz Shipping Route Amid Escalating Conflict

Iran’s top joint military command declared that oil tankers and commercial vessels would no longer be permitted to transit the strategic waterway

Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday following a fresh round of US military strikes ordered by President Donald Trump, escalating tensions in the region and raising concerns about global energy supplies.

According to Reuters, Iran’s top joint military command declared that oil tankers and commercial vessels would no longer be permitted to transit the strategic waterway. The military reportedly warned that any ship attempting passage could be targeted.

The announcement came after the US launched new strikes against Iranian targets in southern areas near the strait. Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, Minab and Sirik following the attacks.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry also warned Gulf nations against allowing their territory or facilities to be used in support of US or Israeli military operations. The ministry said regional countries have a legal and moral responsibility to prevent such actions.

Meanwhile, the US military stated that commercial shipping continued to move through the strait despite Iran’s declaration. Iranian officials also denied reports that Tehran had contacted Trump to seek renewed negotiations.
