A powerful earthquake measuring between 7.4 and 7.5 magnitude struck off northeastern Japan, triggering tsunami warnings across multiple coastal regions, CNN reported.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, waves of up to three meters were forecast for Iwate, while lower-level advisories were issued for Hokkaido and Aomori.

Initial tsunami waves have remained below warning levels so far, with heights of under one meter recorded at key ports, the report said. Authorities ordered the evacuation of nearly 172,000 residents across five prefectures as a precaution.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said no casualties or major structural damage have been reported yet, though assessments are ongoing. Power outages have affected parts of the region, and train services were suspended due to disruptions, according to NHK.
Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi urged residents to move to higher ground. Officials confirmed that nuclear facilities, including Fukushima, remain stable with no abnormalities detected.
