The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a reported drone strike involving a JetBlue Airways passenger aircraft as it prepared to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

The incident occurred Monday morning when the pilot of JetBlue Flight 948, arriving from Las Vegas, reported that an object believed to be a drone struck the aircraft at an altitude of about 3,000 feet during its final approach.

Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot informing the control tower that the object had hit the area above the cockpit.

Despite the reported collision, the Airbus A321 landed safely at approximately 7:21 a.m., and passengers disembarked without incident.

JetBlue later removed the aircraft from service for a detailed inspection. The airline said technicians found no visible damage or evidence confirming a collision but pledged full cooperation with the FAA's investigation.

Authorities will determine whether the aircraft was struck by a drone or another object.

💡
If verified, the incident would rank among the first confirmed collisions between a drone and a U.S. commercial passenger aircraft, highlighting ongoing concerns about unauthorized drone operations near major airports despite existing flight restrictions.
