North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a series of weapons tests on Thursday as Pyongyang continued efforts to modernize its missile and artillery capabilities, according to the country's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The trials are part of North Korea's broader strategy to improve the range, precision and automation of its military systems.

The tests included an upgraded 240-mm multiple rocket launcher equipped with an autonomous precision guidance system, tactical ballistic missiles and a 155-mm self-propelled howitzer.

KCNA reported that the enhanced rocket launcher now has an operational range of up to 90 kilometers, representing a significant improvement over earlier versions.

Kim praised the results of the exercises and said North Korea would continue pursuing advanced military technologies, including long-range strike capabilities, automated systems and ultra-precision weapons.

He indicated that the developments are intended to strengthen the country's defensive posture along its southern border with South Korea.

The latest exercises follow similar weapons demonstrations in May, when North Korea tested tactical ballistic missiles, artillery rockets and AI-guided precision cruise missiles.

The continued military buildup is expected to draw close attention from regional governments as tensions on the Korean Peninsula remain elevated.
