A 41-year-old man has been charged with hate crimes and other offenses after allegedly confronting Today show anchor Craig Melvin inside a restricted area at NBC's studios in New York City.

According to the report, the suspect, identified as Andrew Truelove, allegedly entered the secure section of 30 Rockefeller Center by following an NBC employee and then directed racial slurs at Melvin while searching for weather anchor Al Roker.

The report said Truelove was arrested at the scene and appeared in court the following day, where a judge set bail at $10,000 and issued a temporary order of protection covering both Melvin and Roker.

If convicted, he could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years. NBC has since announced a review of its security procedures following the incident.

According to the report, Melvin returned to the Today program the next day and told viewers he was doing well.

Prosecutors also noted that Truelove has a prior criminal record involving multiple cases, and he is scheduled to return to court later this month while several other legal matters remain pending.
