Microsoft has announced a $2.5 billion investment to launch Microsoft Frontier Co., a new division focused on helping businesses deploy artificial intelligence technologies, reported by CNBC.

According to the report, the new unit will deploy 6,000 employees directly with clients through a model known as forward deployed engineering (FDE).

The team will include technical consultants, support staff, sales professionals and existing FDE specialists. Rodrigo Kede Lima, who previously led Microsoft's Asia business, will head the division.

The move comes as technology companies intensify efforts to accelerate enterprise AI adoption. The report noted that Amazon recently committed $1 billion to a similar initiative, while OpenAI and Anthropic have also established FDE teams.

Microsoft said businesses remain at different stages of AI adoption and require hands-on guidance to select models, integrate AI into operations and protect intellectual property. The company expects the new division to strengthen customer adoption of its AI ecosystem.
