Shares of Spanish olive oil giant Deoleo surged more than 15% Wednesday after reports that domestic cooperative Dcoop has emerged as the leading bidder for the company.
According to CNBC, Dcoop has offered about 470 million euros, or $545 million, for Deoleo, whose brands include Bertolli and Carbonell. Spanish newspaper El Economista reported that the deal has entered its final stages, although it has not been completed and remains subject to negotiations.
Deoleo’s stock reached a fresh 52-week high following the reports. The company has operated through significant swings in olive oil prices caused by climate pressures, water shortages and crop-related threats.
However, Deoleo recently said market conditions have become more stable after a period of exceptional volatility.
