Russian artist and political activist Semyon Skrepetsky, known for his sharp caricatures of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was shot dead in eastern Poland in what prosecutors described as a suspected execution, reported by CNN.

According to Polish authorities, the 44-year-old artist, whose real name was Robert Kuzovkov, was attacked Monday in a parking lot near his home in Biała Podlaska, close to the Belarus border. Prosecutors said the gunman fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene. Skrepetsky died from gunshot wounds to the head and chest.

The report said Polish police quickly launched a manhunt and detained two Belarusian citizens. Investigators are examining their possible involvement in the killing.

Skrepetsky had lived in Poland since 2021 after leaving Russia over fears of persecution linked to his activism. He gained attention for paintings and cartoons critical of Putin, Russian officials and other global political figures.

Authorities have not yet announced a motive, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to prosecutors.
