A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from abandoning a Biden-era plan to build a new FBI headquarters in Greenbelt, Maryland, according to CNN.
Judge Theodore Chuang ruled that the FBI and General Services Administration exceeded their authority when they redirected funding toward relocating the bureau to Washington’s Ronald Reagan Building. The decision followed a lawsuit from Maryland and Prince George’s County.
The Trump administration had argued that the Washington move would be faster, cheaper and more efficient. FBI Director Kash Patel backed the Reagan Building option as the most cost-effective approach.
A GSA spokesperson criticized the ruling as political and said the agency would continue pursuing what it considers the better option. Maryland officials welcomed the decision.
