The report said the organization's headquarters will be based in Shanghai. The agreement was signed ahead of the annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference, where Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to present China's vision for international AI governance and cooperation.

According to the report, China first proposed creating the World AI Cooperation Organization during last year's conference, but no countries had formally joined the initiative until now.

The establishment of the organization marks a significant step in Beijing's efforts to play a larger role in shaping global standards and collaboration on artificial intelligence.
