The White House has submitted an $87.6 billion supplemental spending request to Congress, seeking additional funding for defense readiness, agricultural support, public health initiatives, and international humanitarian assistance.
The proposal is largely centered on replenishing military resources and strengthening defense capabilities following recent operations involving the United States military.
A significant portion of the package is directed toward the Department of Defense. The administration has requested $21 billion for the procurement of munitions, equipment replenishment, and investments aimed at expanding manufacturing capacity for critical defense supplies.
Officials say the funding would help ensure the military remains prepared to respond to future contingencies while supporting domestic defense production.
The funding is intended to provide relief to producers while helping stabilize rural economies across the country.
The supplemental request also contains significant public health and humanitarian components. The White House is asking Congress to approve $800 million in international humanitarian assistance to support efforts aimed at containing the Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.
In addition, $500 million has been requested for Global Health Security programs designed to improve disease surveillance, emergency preparedness, and measures intended to reduce the risk of infectious diseases spreading internationally.
