More than 200 economists, researchers, and technology executives have signed an open letter urging governments and businesses to prepare for artificial intelligence's potential impact on employment.
According to the report, the signatories include 16 Nobel laureates as well as leaders from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI, who warn that AI could transform the economy faster than previous technological revolutions.
The report said the letter, titled "We Must Act Now," argues that AI could become significantly more powerful over the next decade, increasing the risk of widespread job displacement.
It cites research estimating that 50,000 jobs were lost to AI in 2025, while a recent executive survey found that nearly all respondents expect workforce reductions within two years.
The report also noted that International Monetary Fund research suggests AI adoption remains uneven, indicating broad labor market disruption has not yet fully emerged.
