Heavy smoke from major wildfires burning in Canada and Minnesota is spreading across the Midwest and Northeast, exposing millions of Americans to unhealthy air conditions, reported by CBS News and the Associated Press.
The report said thick smoke has also reached cities including Boston, with forecasts indicating it could spread as far south as Washington, D.C. Meteorologists warned that poor air quality may persist for several days.
Experts said severe drought and prolonged heat have created ideal conditions for fast-spreading wildfires.
Health officials advised people to stay indoors, limit outdoor activity, wear N95 masks if necessary and use air purifiers or air conditioners. Long-term exposure to wildfire smoke has been linked to serious health problems and premature deaths, according to researchers.
