For a growing share of U.S. firms, the math now points east. Illustration generated with AI.

A Chinese startup has launched the world’s largest publicly available AI model (dispelling ideas that they lag far behind the U.S.), as data attributes almost 60% of U.S. firms’ AI usage to cheaper services from China.

Chinese AI startup Moonshot has launched Kimi K3, a 2.8 trillion-parameter model it says is the world’s largest “open-weight” AI system (meaning publicly available for download), with performance approaching Anthropic’s Fable model.

Chinese large language models are rapidly gaining traction with businesses around the world thanks to their lower costs. On AI marketplace OpenRouter, adoption by U.S. firms has climbed to almost 60% and continues to rise.

The latest generation of Chinese models is challenging the long-held view that the country’s AI technology lags the United States by at least six months.

FIFA World Cup 2026 – Final preview

The FIFA World Cup final takes place at MetLife Stadium in New York/New Jersey, as Spain clash with reigning World champions Argentina, with both teams looking to secure the World Cup trophy after continental triumphs.

Continental champions of Europe and South America meet in the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 1966. The teams were due to face each other in the Finalissima in March – hosted by Qatar – but the showpiece was canceled due to the Iran conflict.

Argentina are aiming to become the first nation to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962, while Spain are unbeaten in their last 37 matches and are hoping to emulate their 2010 FIFA World Cup title after European success.

Odysseus’ Epic Journey Across The Seas

As Christopher Nolan's IMAX-shot adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey is released, the film, starring Matt Damon as the storm-tossed Odysseus, is introducing a new generation of audiences to one of the world's greatest adventure stories.

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey arrives in cinemas on 17 July, bringing Homer's ancient epic to the big screen in what is billed as the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Running for nearly three hours, the Universal Pictures production stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the legendary Greek hero whose long and perilous journey home has captivated audiences for millennia.

Written down in the seventh or eighth century BC, though widely believed to have been passed down through oral tradition for generations before that, The Odyssey is one of the oldest surviving works of Western literature. The epic follows Odysseus after the fall of Troy, where his cunning plan involving the Trojan Horse secured victory for the Greeks.

His homeward voyage is anything but straightforward. Delayed for years, Odysseus faces a succession of supernatural trials, including witches, monsters and vengeful gods, while his wife, Penelope, and son, Telemachus, await his return to Ithaca.
