China and Russia are deepening economic cooperation as Beijing hosts a major bilateral trade expo ahead of an expected visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin later this week.
The China-Russia Expo opened Sunday in Harbin, a northeastern Chinese city near the Russian border, shortly after President Donald Trump concluded his high-profile visit to Beijing. According to the report, the timing highlights China’s effort to stabilize ties with Washington while strengthening coordination with Moscow.

Chinese Vice-Premier Zhang Guoqing and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Trutnev delivered messages from Presidents Xi Jinping and Putin during the opening ceremony.
Trade between the two countries has surged since Western sanctions were imposed on Russia after the Ukraine war. Chinese customs data showed imports from Russia jumped nearly 40% in April.
Major Chinese state energy and infrastructure companies are participating in the expo, with discussions focused on energy, agriculture, logistics and cross-border infrastructure projects.
