Speaking to CBS News, McMaster said the conflict has not ended but has entered what he described as a "new phase." He argued that the ceasefire framework established through the June memorandum of understanding was unlikely to hold because Washington and Tehran interpreted the agreement differently.

According to McMaster, control of the Strait of Hormuz remains central to Iran's strategy. He said recent attacks on commercial vessels and U.S. allies were intended to pressure Gulf states and weaken their ties with Washington.

McMaster said Tehran aims to strengthen its influence over the strategic waterway while rebuilding its missile and drone capabilities. He estimated that Iran has already restored about 50% of its missile inventory, suggesting the broader conflict remains unresolved despite temporary diplomatic efforts.
