Israel's security cabinet has approved 1.3 billion shekels (about $434 million) to support the development of 34 new settlements in the West Bank.

According to the report, the funding forms part of a broader 8.5 billion-shekel program that includes plans to build approximately 12,000 new housing units and expand infrastructure in the territory.

The report said the government also approved more than 1 billion shekels for new roads serving the settlements. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich welcomed the decision, describing it as a major step toward expanding Israel's presence in the West Bank.

According to the report, the expansion comes amid heightened international scrutiny of Israeli settlements and increasing violence involving settlers in recent months.

The report noted that the United Nations and most countries consider the settlements illegal under international law, a position rejected by Israel, while critics argue continued expansion could further complicate prospects for a two-state solution.
