President Donald Trump wrapped up his Beijing summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday without major breakthrough agreements, but both sides signaled a desire to stabilize strained U.S.-China ties, according to CNN.

The two leaders discussed trade, Taiwan, Iran and energy security during two days of meetings marked by elaborate state ceremonies and unusually warm public exchanges. Trump said the relationship with Xi remained “very strong,” though neither side announced concrete resolutions on longstanding disputes.

According to the report, the Iran conflict overshadowed much of the summit. The White House said both countries agreed the Strait of Hormuz should remain open and reiterated that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons. However, Beijing stopped short of publicly committing to pressure Tehran.

Taiwan also emerged as a flashpoint. Xi warned that mishandling the issue could lead to “clashes and even conflicts,” while U.S. officials insisted America’s Taiwan policy remains unchanged.

Trump also touted potential agricultural, aviation and energy agreements, though China did not formally confirm several proposed deals.
