Iran responded by launching missiles and drones toward Bahrain and later targeted Jordan, while warning Gulf nations that cooperation with Washington would be treated as an act of war.

Trump said further military action was planned but insisted a negotiated settlement with Tehran remained possible. He also threatened action against Iran's underground Pickaxe Mountain nuclear site.

Iran described the June memorandum of understanding as "in crisis" but said it remained engaged in indirect talks through mediators from Qatar, Pakistan and Oman. Oil prices climbed sharply amid renewed fears of wider regional conflict.
