Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has acknowledged that the company's ambitious push into artificial intelligence has not advanced as quickly as leadership anticipated, admitting that the development of AI agents has fallen short of internal expectations.

Speaking during an internal town hall, Zuckerberg also said Meta's recent restructuring, which included significant job cuts and employee reassignments, was not executed as smoothly as planned.

💡
Earlier this year, Meta reduced its global workforce by about 10% and reassigned roughly 7,000 employees to AI-focused teams as part of a broader effort to accelerate innovation and fund major investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

While the changes were intended to position the company for long-term growth, Zuckerberg said the expected acceleration in AI agent capabilities has yet to materialize.

Despite the slower progress, Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta remains committed to its AI strategy and expects the company's investments to begin producing more meaningful results within the next three to six months.

💡
Meta is projected to spend as much as $145 billion on AI infrastructure this year as it competes with other technology companies in the race to develop increasingly capable AI systems.

The remarks reflect the challenges facing even the industry's largest technology firms as they seek to commercialize advanced AI technologies.
