Iran has launched a weeklong state funeral for slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with authorities expecting millions of mourners to attend ceremonies across Iran and Iraq, reported by CNN.

According to the report, the funeral is being presented as a demonstration of national resilience following the U.S.-Israeli war that killed Khamenei in February.

Iranian officials have mobilized government agencies, security forces and emergency services for one of the country's largest public events. Ceremonies will span five cities, with processions through Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala and Mashhad, where Khamenei will be buried.

The report said authorities have deployed thousands of rescue personnel, ambulances, helicopters and drones, while airports will temporarily close and millions of food supplies have been prepared for mourners.

Iranian leaders described the funeral as a message of defiance to the United States and Israel. Attention is also focused on whether new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei will make his first public appearance during the ceremonies.
