The case stemmed from Carroll's 2022 lawsuit accusing Trump of sexually abusing her in a New York department store in the 1990s and later defaming her by denying the allegation. A jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million. Trump has consistently denied the allegations.

CNN reported that a federal appeals court previously upheld the verdict, rejecting Trump's claims that the trial judge improperly allowed testimony from other women and admitted the 2005 "Access Hollywood" recording as evidence.

Separately, Trump also faces an $83 million judgment in Carroll's earlier 2019 defamation lawsuit. Including interest, the report said Trump now owes Carroll more than $100 million. His legal team is expected to appeal the larger judgment.
