Ukraine launched its largest drone offensive against Moscow since the start of the full-scale war, targeting energy and infrastructure sites deep inside Russia, according to CNN. Russian authorities said air defenses intercepted 194 drones headed toward the capital and 555 drones nationwide.
The report said one of the main targets was the Moscow Oil Refinery, located near the Russian capital. Videos cited by CNN showed explosions, fires and heavy smoke at the facility. Other locations, including commercial and residential areas, also reported damage from falling debris. Russian officials said at least 16 people were injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes as a response to ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities. According to CNN, Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy infrastructure in an effort to pressure Moscow economically and militarily.
Russia responded with missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian territory, damaging energy and civilian facilities. The attacks came as NATO leaders discussed additional support for Ukraine and future European defense commitments amid uncertainty over U.S. force levels in Europe.
